GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with members of the medical community to promote awareness and serve as a medical expert in endocrinology. The incumbent must command a solid understanding of the specialty market place both nationally and regionally and will partner with regional business directors to contribute to the overall understanding of the disease state and EMD Serono's products within the assigned region. The MSL will build solid and credible relationships with key thought leaders for EMD Serono as in Academic and Community specialty practice. A critical role is to coordinate and conduct professional education, consultant programs and scientific exchange in a compliant manner. The incumbent will be well versed in the technical details of the specific disease process, treatment data and share this knowledge appropriately in the conduct of the Medical Affairs function relative to EMD Serono products. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Functions as an authoritative reference in endocrinologyProvides in-depth scientific, clinical, and educational support to the regional sales team through the dissemination of pertinent approved educational, scientific, and clinical information on the specific disease state and its treatmentDisseminates to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals state-of-the-art research and medical concepts consistent with the product insert related to the treatment and management of the specific disease state through consultant programs and one to one peer interactionLeads, develops and implements regional programs based on approved national templates to promote product and disease state awarenessCollaborates with medical affairs on activities in his/her regionConceptualizes and communicates requests from stakeholders through Medical Affairs to clinical, pre-clinical, exploratory, drug safety and medical information etcRepresents EMD Serono Inc. at specific continuing educational events, programs, medical meetings and conventionsResponsible for partnering with the sales training to develop and educate the Key Account Managers on a medical/scientific basisSupports Managed Care Specialists by presenting the clinical/scientific rationale for the use of EMD Serono's products during their discussions with reimbursement agenciesPotential collaboration with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to produce and submit abstracts and papers from existing and future studies (Phase IIIb - IV)Facilitates submission of unsolicited research proposals to Independent Medical Grant CommitteeCommunicates with KAM, ABD, and Medical Affairs on ongoing activities related to specific physicians/institutions and other customers relevant to job responsibilities

Liaises with the Medical Affairs staff on the development and implementation of medical initiatives both nationally and regionally

Communicates research and development concepts with Medical Affairs and Clinical Development Unit

As appropriate, communicates and coordinates Phase IIIb and IV research studies

Administers and monitors appropriate budget expenditures to meet the responsibilities as outlined above

Maintains physician/academic institution records for their territory and activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced degree (PhD, Pharm D, MD or MS)

Strong oral and written communication skills

Minimum of 3 years of proven success as MSL. Experience in endocrinology required and specialty experience in pediatric endocrinology or reproductive health is preferred

Previous pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent organizational skills and abilityHighly developed interpersonal skills and teamwork ·Extensive (75%) regional travel to meet strategic needs of the region. Travel will include periodic national meetings and may include international conferences
