If you have a personal acquaintance who recommended this job to you, a cover letter is the place to mention that. This is also a good place to mention any positive articles you’ve read about the company. Give details about a portion of your prior work experience that's especially relevant to this specific job, but avoid giving a synopsis of your resume.
